Galahad belt shield

Our belt shields can be painted in groups colours, insignia or heraldry to show the membership to a certain group. Made from 1,2 mm steel, we offer them in our favorite plate armour series now. Matching the "Gustav" series, this shield is not decorated, but meets the series' style with plain and undecorated beauty. It is worn on a belt by using the two loops on the top to hoist it through there. Naturally it can be worn as a tasset, when fastened on the upper thigh. This way you will have an additional plate armour piece. The belt shields, just like our arm shields, cry out to be painted, modded and to be combined with existing clothing. This is, where your creativity and immagination comes into place. Talking of creativity: We suggest to clean the shield with Acetone prior to painting it. Afterwards just sand it with a paper with 600 grid. Use some automobile colour primer as the colour-matching foundation. When the foundation is fully dried, you should sand it again and apply a second layer of colour. Now is the time, where you can paint your details, like heraldry, animals and writings with weatherproof acrylic paint. The roman chain mail was called the Lorica Hamata. The oldest picture dates back to 168 BC and shows soldiers in this specific mail armour. Ever since the 1st century BC the double shoulder mail was eliminated and the shirt was shortened. The "classic" chain mail was born and spread all over Europe.This flatened ring chain mail is made for men with a medium chest circumference. It is wide enough to be worn on top of a gambeson. It is made with short sleeves and reaches down to, approximately, the knees. The blank version is galvanized shiny (zincked), it is treated against rusting and will need only little caretaking. The sallet "Mathes" from our diverse range of helmets is particularly elaborate. Curved lines adorn the movable visior, as well as the triple-segmented neck guard. Puttees have been in use from the Iron Age until the medieval times. It was "reinvented" by the military and used as regular equipment for soldiers in World War I. and in the second World War. Be it Roman legionary or french soldier: this easy to put on leg dress warmes the calfs and protects from scratches and bruises. Our "Hamond" puttees are made from robust canvas fabric. With its 380 cm length, it can be used for wrapping up to the knee - even thicker calfs should get their share of warmth.
