This chain shirt is made of lightweight aluminium and is completely riveted. It is suitable for ' normal ' built people with medium chest circumference and wide enough to wear a gambeson underneath. The sleeves cover about 2/3 of the arm. The length of the chainmail extends to the middle of the thigh.

We recommend this chain mail for people with a chest circumference of 90 cm to 125 cm. Thus the chain shirt can be worn on a gambeson and uses its maximum width of 140 cm under the arms.

Richard chain mail flat rings

The exact origin of mail is not known, but the earliest examples were found to be made in the 4th century BC. One of the earliest discoveries is the mail from the Hjortspring swamp in todays Denmark. In the 12th and 13th century it developed to the most important piece of armour in Europe. This chain mail is made for men with a medium chest circumference. This short-sleeved chain mail was built for average sized adults with a "normal" chest circumference. It is wide enough to be worn on top of a padded gambeson.The sleeves cover some 2/3 of the arms - still being considered a short sleeve chain mail - and reaches down to the middle of your thigh.We suggest to wear this chain mail with an average chest circumference from 90cm to 125cm. This way it chan be worn in combination with a padded gambeson and can extend itself to a maximum width of 140cm circumference. A belt can help to distribute the weight properly. The blank version is fully galvanized and does not rust. Oiled and browned chainmails are ungalvanized and are supplied with a high lubrication. Please remove the excess oil before first use. Ungalvanized chain shirts should be treated regularly with oil like Ballistol. David chainmail shirt aluminium flat ring

This chainmail shirt is rather small and is intended to be used without a gambeson. The chest circumference is relatively small as well, which is why we recommend it for warriors that are younger and/or of a more slender built with a chest girth of 70cm to 95cm. Since aluminium is softer than steel, every single ring of this chainmail shirt is riveted to give it the necessary stability.
