The kettle hat is the typical helmet of the medieval infantryman. The helmets form protects from hits from above and does not interfere with breathing or hearing. Oftentimes referred to as "the helmet of the commoner", the kettle helmet is particularly eligiable to reenact footmen and common soldiers. Kettle helmets developed around the 11th century and came westwards from probably Byzantine. Quickly they became one of the most worn types of helmets in medieval europe. It was easy to make and protected well against blows and strikes from above; fro mthe horse downwards, that means. This way many infantrymen wore this type of helmet.The \\"Owen\\" kettle helmet is built with a wide brim, which protects the wearer from sun and rain. Face and back of the neck are left free, which allows an open movement, breathing, sight and hearing. This was a very common combat helmet in medieval europe. Typical for this make was the headband with the high dome and its metal stripes on the skull. The barbute is the italian variant of the bascinet and offers good protection for head and face without limiting view or breathing to much.We recommend wearing  a padded coif with it.

The chain mail "Richard" was made for wearers of average chest circumferences. It is wide enough to wear a gambeson underneath, has long sleeves and is approxamatly knee length. We suggest this chain mail for wearers with an chest circumference of app 90 cm to 125 cm. This way the chain mail can be worn over a gambeson and will extend to a maximum of 140 cm underneath the arms. The rings in the "armpit" are fully riveted. As shown on the picture, we recommend to wear the chain mail above a gambeson and with a belt, to readjust the weight. Attention: The upper seam on the hip is really wide. Do not wonder, but see the Rus pants cut as an authentic (and surprisingly: very comfortable) way of wearing them. These pants were made following the example set by the Rus-pants. A early viking pattern, that allows enomous movement. The pants are being tied on the waistband and just below the knee.
